Most contractors on public land or private property require Public Liability Insurance. This is relevant for location shooting, and especially weddings, where local councils must be advised anyway.
I am insured for $10 million which is the minimum requirement for most councils, including City of Sydney (which includes areas such as The Rocks, Walsh Bay, Circular Quay etc.) and North Sydney (including Milson’s Point, Lavender Bay etc.). Public Liability Insurance is also a must have if I have to enter special areas such as construction sites or other non-public access spaces.
Public Liability Insurance covers me if I cause damage in some way to public or private property. I'm not sure how I could possibly cause $10m worth of damage, but councils and proprieters need this so that I am able cover the cost of any damage I do cause. Without it, I may not be allowed to operate on their property, which is pretty important if you've booked me for a photoshoot!
Feel free to contact me if you'd like more information.
